Morning Blog-Mar. 19

Good morning. It's Thursday, March 19, 2009.

My obsession this week is Lady Gaga. It seems I have an affinity for people with a unique sense of fashion. I mean, when you see a picture of Lady Gaga, she usually has a leotard -- or half a leotard -- on with tights underneath and some big ol' heels. I am one of a very small group who thinks she pulls it off.

She's also become famous for her hair choices. According to some "vintage Gaga" pics I've seen of her, she used to be a brunette. Now -- she's the furthest thing from it! She's bleach-blonde, and sometimes styles her mane into a hair bow on top of her head. Now, when I say hair bow -- I mean a bow made of HER HAIR. It's amazing.

Another thing you'll see a lot of -- some facial decorations. My favorite one is a silver lightening bolt somehow stuck on her cheek in the "Pokerface" video. I'm getting pretty serious about dressing up as Gaga for Halloween -- except I'll PROBABLY be wearing pants.

One more thing she's known for, along with the Olsen twins -- wearing huge sunglasses. Now, that's not uncommon these days -- in fact, one local celeb right here in mid-Michigan is also a fan of donning the big shades.

I'm talking about my very own new running buddy, Liz Dueweke, an ABC12 Weekend Anchor. You can check out a picture of us in the carousel above. We were just getting ready to take off for the 4 mile Pot O'Gold Race in downtown Flint on Tuesday.

We had SUCH a blast running. The weather was gorgeous, hundreds of people came out and nearly everyone was decked out in green. As you can see from the picture -- I was probably the ONLY person without any of the verde on. Lame! I know!

Enjoy the day - it's supposed to be sunny, so I'm going to be putting in a few miles today. See you bright and early tomorrow morning. It's another School Spirit Friday!

Morning Blog-Mar. 18

Good morning. It's Wednesday, March 18, 2009.

Some random ramblings while spending a rare day working out of our beautiful ABC12 Saginaw bureau.I love infiltrating this office! My favorite thing to do is sit at a desk that doesn't actually belong to me.Right now, I'm writing this blog on Kristen Abraham's computer. In the 16 months that I have worked at the station, I've seen Kristen a grand total of ONE time.In fact, that ranks right up there with J.R. Kirtek, who I have NEVER seen. Actually, I take that back. I ran into J.R. and his five kids at Genesee Valley Mall on a Saturday, but that was nearly a year ago. The night creatures live in a completely different world from the morning crew.

Speaking of a different world, last Saturday, my wife, Allison and I made the trip to Motor City Casino with a few of our friends. We had tickets to see Bret Michaels. Yes, THE Bret Michaels. Bret with one "t", the lead singer of Poison, and also the star of "Rock of Love" on VH1. Let's just say that some of the women we encountered at the show we're interesting. Many of them looked and dressed as if they were auditioning for a part on Bret's next reality show. Anyone who has ever watched "Rock of Love" knows exactly what I'm talking about.

The concert was surprisingly good. Bret was smart about it, and instead of playing "Bret Michaels" songs, he stuck with Poison's greatest hits. The highlight of the night, though, was watching two girls try to convince one of Bret's security guards to bring them backstage. One of the girls was fortunate enough to receive her "backstage pass", while the other was left waiting at the door for a good hour, because as she was told, they only had room for one more person. Feel free to take a look at Bret's website.

All in all, it was a fun night. Being the high roller that I am, I quit gambling after donating my 40 dollars to a slot machine. I'm heading off to do my taxes today, and I can only assume that my donation will be tax deductable.

Enjoy the rest of your day, and I'll talk with you again tomorrow morning.

Morning Blog-Mar. 17

Tuesday already -- and St. Patrick's Day. This year's holiday is going to be a bit different from how I've celebrated in the past. Instead of heading out to the local hotspots, I'll be running in the Pot O'Gold 4 mile race in downtown Flint.

I'll be joined by ABC12 anchor and reporter Liz Dueweke. While she says she's a new runner -- each time we hit the road, she runs like a pro. It's always really nice to have a running buddy; the run is a LOT easier when you're talking and laughing.

If you want to join us for the race today, head to the Masonic Temple around 4:30 for the race sign-up. The race steps off at 6. And if you're hanging out downtown -- get out to the sidewalk to cheer us on!

Tomorrow, Marc has promised to let our millions of faithful BLOG readers know all about his crazy weekend concert. Two words for you: Bret Michaels. Awesome.

Until then -- enjoy your St. Patty's Day -- and BE SAFE. Make sure you have a driver -- there are cab companies offering free rides from 3pm all the way 'till 3am.

See you bright and early tomorrow morning.

Morning Blog-Mar. 16

Welcome to the start of a new week. It is hard to believe we're celebrating (yes, CELEBRATING) the last week of winter. We'll officially ring in spring on Saturday, March 21st. It cannot come too soon for me. Don't get me wrong, I love winter in Michigan. There is nothing more beautiful than freshly fallen snow. I spent time outside over the weekend and have decided I'm ready for it to be over. The smell of spring is in the air - fresh and inspiring. It makes me want to hit the pavement and do some running. I have only 5 months to get crackin' before the Crim. It is time to get fit and feel great!

Speaking of getting fit, have you seen Britney Spears lately? WTWow!!! I just watched the video for her new song "If You See Amy". Let me tell you, Brit has come a long way since last year at this time. She seems to be getting back to her old self. It has never been her singing - but her dancing - that has impressed me. A handful of breakdowns, 1 ex-husband and 2 kids later, and she looks fantastic! I hope she can keep her life together. You hate to see celebrity kill celebrities

Speaking of 2 kids later, Charlie Sheen and his wife Brooke Mueller Sheen are the proud parents of twin boys. They've named the boys Max and Bob- not Robert - just plain Bob. Finally, a couple of normal names. Charlie Sheen shares custody of two young daughters with ex-wife Denise Richards. I wonder if they'll be watching Denise on "Dancing With the Stars". From all I've read its a pretty slim chance. Hopefully, you'll be able to catch the show tonight at 8:00 right here on ABC12. Check out the website That's past my bedtime - but if Donny Osmond ever takes to the dance floor I'll lose sleep to watch. Yes, they call it "Puppy Love". I'm sorry, but at 52 years old he still looks A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. In case you haven't seen him lately, you should check him out.

Another thing expected to be amazing, the turnout at Irish pubs tomorrow for St. Patrick's day. Marc Jacobson will be live at Bubba O'Malley's in Burton. It is always a good time with plenty of corned beef, cabbage, green 'spirits' and live music. Remember, if you plan on partying, be safe. Our resident Irishman John McMurray always takes the day off to celebrate the occassion. His irish eyes are already smiling! Kevin Goff will be joining us in the morning. It is going to be fun, fun, fun!

Thought for the day: "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work" Thomas A. Edison.

Go out and find your opportunity!
