3 injured in Woodville bonfire explosion

The fire captain from Woodville tells 13abc the explosion is being considered accidental.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene around 10pm Saturday night. Officials say 8 people were sitting around a fire ring when something inside or near the fire caused an explosion. Three people were burned by the flames.

Two of the people were taken by helicopter and another by ambulance to an area hospital. We're told they were two high school students from Woodmore and another from Penta Career Center. Their injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

Officials tell us the fire was contained and no one had thrown any objects into the fire. In the state of Ohio there are no open burning laws.

Captain Dave Miller says, "Technically not allowed to burn at all unless you're doing it for food consumption or have a legal burning permit."

Officials have not identified the substance that caused the explosion. They tell us alcohol wasn't involved and no one will be cited.
