In the end, Stohlman had 40 percent to Holcombe's 36 percent.
Stohlman said he's feeling thankful.
"It feels fantastic. I'm really happy for Morrisville right now," said Stohlman. "I just want to say thank you to Jackie Holcombe for her outstanding work with the town for the last four year, and congratulations also to Dr. Singh. He did a fantastic campaign. He brought out the vote. We doubled the turn-out from two years ago. That was all thanks to everyone's effort. I owe these guys so much. The community was behind me."
Stohlman will be sworn in on Dec. 10.
Holcombe told ABC11 that she congratulates the new mayor and looks forward to new opportunities.
She came under fire from some after her stance on a new North Carolina gun law that allows concealed carry weapons on playgrounds and greenways. The town council recently voted to comply with the new state law, which took effect Oct. 1.
Some ads aired that were critical of Holcombe for her stance on guns.
Narendra Singh came in third place with 24 percent of the vote.
