ASPCA organizes adoption event for nearly 700 rescued animals

SANFORD, N.C. (WTVD) -- The ASPCA is holding a major adoption event in Sanford, N.C. for nearly 700 rescued dogs and cats from Friday, March 18 to Sunday, March 20.

It runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 2215 Nash Street, across from the National Guard Armory.
The animals were rescued Jan. 27 from a shelter called The Haven-Friends for Life in Raeford, N.C.
"For nearly two months, more than a hundred ASPCA responders have managed the sheltering, medical treatment and behavior enrichment of these animals," said Tim Rickey, vice president of ASPCA Field Investigations and Response. "Today these animals are healthy and happy and are ready to be placed in safe and loving homes. These animals will make wonderful additions to families willing to open their homes and hearts to give them a second chance."
Dozens of people worked around-the-clock for the ASPCA at various undisclosed locations to help the hundreds of animals recover. The animals were found with an array of medical issues, but most are doing all right now.
The two owners of the unlicensed shelter are facing four counts of animal cruelty charges, three counts of felony possession of a controlled substance, and the Hoke County Sheriff said there are still more charges to come.
