Arrest made in Chatham County murder

CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Investigators from the Chatham County Sheriff's Office have made an arrest in the investigation of a shooting that left one man dead on June 1.

The incident occurred just outside of Siler City at a home in the 1600 block of Siler City Snow Camp Road shortly before 3 a.m.

The victim was identified as 38-year-old Demetrius Elliot Headen.

Early in the investigation, 42-year-old Xavier Pierre Walker was arrested for felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was placed under a $200,000 secured bond and held in the Chatham County Jail since June 1.

During the investigation, Walker became a person of interest in the case.

Thursday, investigators charged Walker with first degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He is being held with no bond on those two charges.

Walker is scheduled to appear in court again on Aug. 21.
