LINDEN, NC (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident in the Linden area.

Officials said it appears the body of the motorcyclist had been on the side of the road for about four days before it was discovered.

The body was found Thursday afternoon at the East Reeves Bridge Road and Palestine Road intersection.

Troopers said 37-year-old Samuel Byrd was apparently riding a small dirt bike when he crashed into a deep drainage ditch.

Byrd's family said they last saw him Monday.
