GH Spotlight: Van Hansis on being a role model as Dr. Lucas Jones

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Boston native Van Hansis began his career at the age of 7 when he was put in an acting class by his parents, who were both educators, and needed a place for him and his brother to spend afternoons while they worked. He then went on to a performing arts high school and eventually graduated from Carnegie Mellon University.

In 2007, he landed the role of Luke Snyder on "As the World Turns" and played that character until the show's end in 2010.

Following several years of other stage, film, and TV roles, Hansis, 44, returned to the soap opera world in 2024 after being recast as "Dr. Lucas Jones" on "General Hospital." He said he was so excited to play another gay character and be a part of representation and "bringing marginalized people to the camera" ... and "it's an honor" to be that type of role model.

Hansis recently sat down with ABC11 photojournalist and General Hospital Insider Dearon Smith to discuss what's in store for "Lucas" and what he hopes to see in the next few weeks in Port Charles.
