Hundreds attend service for ESPN anchor Stuart Scott in Raleigh
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Private funeral arrangements began Friday in Raleigh for ESPN anchor Stuart Scott.
A viewing for Scott was held Friday evening at Providence Baptist Church on Glenwood Avenue, and the funeral is set for Saturday at the same location.
Since his passing on Sunday, there have been an overwhelming number of tributes to honor Scott.
The 49-year-old Chicago native was a proud UNC-Chapel Hill graduate and an ABC11 intern before he went on to break the mold at ESPN. He forever changed the game when it came to how we get our sports news and highlights.
Scott battled cancer for seven years -- working through it all.
Among those who came to pay their respects Friday evening were several of Scott's brothers from the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. They held a special service at the church to honor one of their own.
"We sung some songs. A couple of his line brothers spoke a little bit and remembered some things about him," said Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity member Arvetra Jones. "It was emotional, but at the same time it was a pleasant feeling. Just being there and being able to be a part of it was special."
For four hours, the Raleigh News & Observer reports Scott's family also accepted the condolences of athletes, family friends, and people who barely knew Scott. Among those in attendance was golfer Tiger Woods and former UNC basketball star Phil Ford.

Scott is survived by his parents, three siblings, his girlfriend, and two children.
