FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- The man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting Friday night, was found dead early Saturday morning, according to Fayetteville police.
The shooting happened around 8 p.m. in the 4900 block of Rosehill Road near College Lakes Park.
Police said the victim, 20-year-old Maurice Williams Jr., was a passenger in a car that was traveling east on Rosehill Road when a man inside the vehicle started shooting.
The gunfire struck Williams, who was then driven to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he later died as a result of his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Aisha Marie Ferrin, was also injured. However, her injuries are not considered life threatening.
The suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Kenneth Jerome Hobbs Jr. of Hedgelawn Way in Fayetteville, jumped from the vehicle after the shooting and fled on foot, according to authorities.
His body was found early Saturday morning near Rosehill Road and McArthur Drive and was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh to determine his cause of death.
Hobbs had been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting.
Detectives with the FPD's Homicide Unit continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. They said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
