Elderly man escapes Fayetteville house fire

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- An elderly man managed to escape from a burning house in Fayetteville early Thursday morning.

The blaze broke out at a home just after 12:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Spencer Street off Southern Avenue in the Massey Hill area.

Officials said the 70-year-old man climbed out of a window and was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation before being transported to the hospital.

Fire crews said no other injuries were reported, although the home was heavily damaged.

It's unclear what caused the blaze. The fire department is still investigating.
