Tow truck driver charged after deadly Raleigh crash

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Raleigh man is facing multiple charges, including aggravated felony death by vehicle and driving while impaired, after a crash involving a tow truck, two motorcycles and a sedan left one person dead Friday morning, according to police.

Raleigh police said officers responded around 2:36 a.m. to a crash at the intersection of Capital Boulevard and Trawick Road.

A preliminary investigation determined that Allan Guerrero, 39, was driving a tow truck south on Capital Boulevard when he ran a red light while making a left turn onto Trawick Road, entering the path of oncoming traffic. Police said the tow truck collided with two motorcycles and a sedan.

Several lanes of Capital Boulevard were shut down as investigators worked to process the crash scene.

One of the motorcycle riders, Chandler Hodge, 35, died at the scene.

Guerrero, the second motorcycle operator and two people inside the sedan were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police arrested Guerrero at the scene and charged him with:

  • Aggravated Felony Death by Vehicle
  • Felony Serious Injury by Vehicle (3 counts)
  • Driving While Impaired (DWI)
  • Driving While License Revoked (Impaired Revocation)
  • Fail to Stop for a Steady Red Light
  • Unsafe Movement Causing a Motor Vehicle Crash with Injury
  • Unsafe Movement

Following the crash and during the investigation, Guerrero was also charged with drunk and disorderly conduct and resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer.

The investigation remains ongoing.
