LUMBERTON, NC (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol says it has identified the driver who hit and killed 17-year-old Austen Stevey Ray Collins February 6 near Lumberton.
Investigators said Collins was walking along Wire Grass Road around 7:15 p.m. when he was hit. The driver did not stop.
Troopers said 45-year-old Michael Lenell Dortch of Lumberton surrendered himself Tuesday. His 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor has also been seized.
Charges in the case are pending.
Time Warner Cable News reports Collins was a junior at Fairmont High School and played nose guard on the football team.
