Search continues for hit-and-run driver who killed teens
BROADWAY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A wreath of white flowers hangs next to the doorway of the Schark family home in Broadway Monday.
Just two nights earlier and less than a quarter mile away, 13-year-old Jennafer Schark was killed alongside 16-year-old Kyle Strait. Their 14-year-old friend Steven Daniels was critically injured, but is now home recovering.
A hit-and-run driver was responsible for the horror witnessed by two other teens, including Jennafer's 17-year-old sister, Jessyka.
That driver is still out there, much to the parents' dismay.
"Any little piece of information that you can remember about the vehicle and know about the vehicle to please help us to find this person, so that they can be punished for their actions," said the Schrack girls' mother, Janice. "It's won't get me my daughter back but maybe it will help another family before he hits and strikes them dead."
Jessyka said the group was walking home to her and her sister's house from the BP gas station on Highway 421 in Broadway.
The candy was better at that store than the one right next to their house, she said.
Near McNeil Mills Road, Jessyka heard the loud exhaust pipe of what she believes was a white pickup. She was walking in the middle of the group, but watched the driver hit her sister in front of her. The group's backs were to traffic.
"I mean it was fast. Like, It just whizzed by and you know I never heard any brakes," she said. "I heard a 'thud' and the truck just got back on the road and hit the gas and kept going."
Jessyka said Monday all she really needs now is something that doesn't exist.
"I don't really know....I mean, a time machine..."she said helplessly.
