DURHAM (WTVD) -- This week is Durham 'Creek Week,' and for a retired ABC11 anchor, the week holds special meaning.
Nearly every morning for the last several years, Larry Stogner has walked his dogs to Sandy Creek Park and worked to keep the trails clean.
On Saturday morning, Larry and his wife Bobbi were out helping others tidy up the creek.
Organizers of the event said they plan to name part of the park after Larry.
"We want to make this park totally accessible to people with limited mobility," said John Goebel, with the Durham Open Space and Trail Commission.
"We're in the process of designing a loop trail that will go around the pond and around this meadow, and I've asked and we're going to go through the process to name it after Larry," Goebel said.
'Creek Week' is part of the Keep Durham Beautiful initiative. All week, volunteers have had the chance to participate in cleanup events at local creeks, marshes, streams, and lakes throughout Durham.
Last year, volunteers picked up more than 10,000 pounds of trash from Durham waterways.
