Just when it looked like the Carolina Hurricanes might snatch a huge win from the jaws of defeat, Vegas struck with less than 2 minutes left to send the game to overtime.

Mark Stone was credited with the goal that sent the game to an extra period.

In a stunning turn of events, the Carolina Hurricanes scored three goals in a five-minute span of the third period to erase a two-goal deficit and take a 3-2 lead late in the third period.

Jordan Staal scored on the power play to put the Canes ahead for the first time Thursday night.

Canes storm back to tie game

The lid is about to blow off the Lenovo Center -- the Hurricanes have stormed back to tie Vegas at 2-2 late in the third period.

After Logan Stankoven got the Hurricanes on the board, Mark Jankowski blasted in the tying goal just over two minutes later to send the crowd into delirium.

Tie game with just over 5 minutes to go.

Logan Stankoven gave the Carolina Hurricanes new life, beating Vegas goalie Carter Hart for an unassisted goal at 10:20 of the third period.

The goal brought the Lenovo Center crowd back to life as the Canes need just a goal to tie.
