2 people die, child in hospital after collision involving RDU airport shuttle in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Raleigh police say two of the four people injured in a collision involving a car and a Fast Park RDU shuttle bus on Saturday have died. The driver of the car is facing numerous charges.

The crash happened around 3:02 p.m. on Glenwood Avenue near Lumley Road after police say the driver of the car ran a red light and plowed into the bus, causing it to roll over. Four people were taken to the hospital, including the driver of the car. The driver of the transit was not injured.

Monday, police announced that Scott Christofferson, 48, and his wife, Jennifer Christofferson, 45, have died from their injuries. Their child remains in the hospital.

Scott Christofferson was an emergency department pharmacist at UNC Health Rex Hospital in Raleigh, a UNC spokesperson told ABC11.

"We have learned the heartbreaking news that a member of our UNC Health family and his wife were killed in a tragic motor vehicle accident over the weekend," UNC Health said in a statement to ABC11. "Scott Christofferson has been a valued part of the UNC Health Rex Emergency Department and Pharmacy teams for many years. Our thoughts and our hearts are with Scott and his family's loved ones during this unimaginable time. UNC Health is providing support services and care for our affected teammates."

The driver of the car is 70-year-old Barry W. Hayes, who is still in the hospital, police confirm.

Hayes is facing the following charges:

• Two counts of involuntary manslaughter

• Two counts of death by vehicle

• No operator's license

• Reckless driving causing serious injuries

• Red Light Violation

• Unsafe tires
