RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Hurricanes have done it. They beat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 in the best-of-seven Stanley Cup Final to win their first Stanley Cup championship since 2006.
Jordan Staal came through with his second goal of the game to break a 3-3 tie and put the Canes back on top.
The captain's second goal came at 6:32 of the third period. Nikolaj Ehlers got the assist.
Staal also scored in the first period.
Staal now has five goals in the Stanley Cup Final.
This is the first time in Stanley Cup Final history that four games featured a team rally from a multi-goal deficit to at least tie the game, according to the NHL.
It's a testament to how evenly matched the Hurricanes and Golden Knights are. No lead has been safe in this series.
Brett Howden's goal drew Vegas even with the Hurricanes at 3.
The Canes twice had two-goal leads but could not maintain the lead.
Howden's score came with just over three minutes left in the second period.
William Karlsson scored Vegas' second goal at 4:22 of the second period to draw the Golden Knights to within 3-2.
Rasmus Andersson and Mitch Marner, who has been a menace during the playoffs, assisted.
