Durham man charged with murder after woman killed in Saturday afternoon shooting
DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- A woman was killed and another was injured in a shooting Saturday afternoon in Durham, and police have arrested a suspect on multiple felony charges.
According to the Durham Police Department, officers responded around 1:30 p.m. Saturday to a shooting on Revere Road near Sedwick Road. Investigators said a woman was driving south on Revere Road when shots were fired into her vehicle.
The driver, identified in court documents as Victoria James, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, Dasia James, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Court records also identify Jeffery James as a victim in the case.
Police arrested Lontrel Diray Alston, 38, and charged him with:
- First-degree murder
- Two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
- Discharging a weapon into occupied property
- Habitual misdemeanor assault
According to an arrest warrant, investigators allege Lontrel Diray Alston fatally shot Victoria James, wounded Dasia James, assaulted Jeffery James, and fired a handgun into a Mitsubishi Outlander occupied by the three victims.
