The NFL is marking the 60th anniversary of the Super Bowl with a hometown opening act.

Green Day will kick off the big game with an opening ceremony Feb. 8 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, the league announced Sunday. The performance will celebrate six decades of the championship's history, with the band helping usher generations of Super Bowl MVPs onto the field.

The trio, who formed in the East Bay subregion of the San Francisco Bay Area and are made up of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool, are expected to perform a selection of their best-known anthems as part of the tribute.

"We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!" lead singer Armstrong said. "We are honored to welcome the MVPs who've shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let's have fun! Let's get loud!"

A Bay Area middle school student is getting the surprise of a lifetime.

Eighth grader Jasmine Resendez of San Francisco has been picked as this year's NFL PLAY 60 Super Kid.

"You got these two free Super Bowl tickets," Resendez's coach said when the news was revealed to her.

Resendez responded with an excited "What?!"

Resendez is also serving as Good Morning America's Kid Correspondent throughout Super Bowl Week.

With Super Bowl LX just days away, official NFL pop-up shops are already rolling into the Bay Area.

While most of the NFL Shop's temporary retail locations will open inside San Francisco hotels next Thursday, a few are already up and running around Fisherman's Wharf -- giving fans an early chance to grab Super Bowl gear before the crowds arrive.

With the expected tens of thousands of visitors descending on the Bay Area next week, officials warn that counterfeiters will be out in full force. Last year alone, the Department of Homeland Security seized nearly $40 million in fake sports merchandise ahead of the Super Bowl.
