Election Day 2024: Live results and analysis

The big day is finally here: Tuesday, Nov. 5, is Election Day across the U.S. Millions of people will head to the polls today - joining more than 80 million who already voted early or by mail - to decide who controls everything from the White House to Congress to state and local governments.

All eyes are, of course, on the presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. The election will likely come down to seven key swing states - Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin - where the polls are razor-close.

Trump is projected to carry South Carolina

Unsurprisingly, ABC News projects that Trump will win in South Carolina, a state that has been reliably red in presidential races since at least 1984. (Republicans won the state in 1980 also, but not by a very large margin.)

Also in the Palmetto State tonight, a ballot referendum that would prohibit noncitizens from voting in state and local elections, one of a raft of such measures around the country. With 23% of the expected vote reporting, the measure looks almost sure to pass: 84% of voters have voted in favor, with 16% opposed.

Voters waiting up to 7 hours to vote in Bethlehem, Pa.

Voters in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, were waiting in line for as long as seven hours to cast their ballots at a polling location near Lehigh University, an official confirmed to ABC News.

The official -- Scott Hough, the vice chair of the Northampton County Election Commission -- said the wait was due to a broken voting machine in one precinct.

A judge denied Pennsylvania Democrats' request to keep this polling location open until 10 p.m., but will allow any voters who were in line at 8 p.m. to cast their ballots.

The state's Democratic Party petitioned the judge to grant the extension, arguing the Northampton County Board of Elections "has failed to provide sufficient voting machines and personnel to accommodate" voters.

"Long wait times resulting from inadequate equipment and personnel have caused electors to potentially be unable to vote within the time for opening and closing of polls," the petition stated.
