Fayetteville Chief talks upcoming Attorney General visit

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch is launching a six-city tour highlighting community policing efforts.

While the tour kicks off in Miami on Thursday, Lynch also deemed Fayetteville a city where the police department is excelling in areas including crime reduction and trust.

On a yet-to-be announced date, Lynch will land in the All-America City to meet with the Fayetteville Police Department and city leaders.

On Tuesday, FPD Chief Harold Medlock spoke about the upcoming visit, calling it an honor. He is a part of the 21st Century Policing Task Force and has sat on White House panels to discuss the initiatives.

During the visit Medlock plans to tout the department's transparency and community relations, especially as a force tasked with being "protectors of the nation's protectors."

"(We'll talk about) the fact that we put a lot of information out that perhaps some departments are reluctant or nervous about sharing, (and) I think that hopefully the technology that leads us to being able to be that much more transparent with our community," said Medlock. "And then the relationships that we have with our community leaders, our community watch members. Those are things that I think make Fayetteville, North Carolina unique across the country."
