Man walking near Garner killed by car

GARNER, NC (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a man was killed by a car just outside Garner Saturday evening.

It happened around 6 p.m. on US 401 South near St. Patrick Drive.

Investigators said 20-year-old Daquarn Lamar Smith of Fuquay Varina was walking in the road wearing dark clothing with his back to traffic when he was hit from behind by a Ford Mustang.

He was taken to WakeMed where he was declared dead.

No charges will be filed.
