Sanford police investigating fatal early morning shooting

SANFORD (WTVD) -- Authorities in Sanford are investigating an early morning shooting after a teenager was found fatally wounded Tuesday.



Just before 1 a.m., police officers were called to the 1100 block of James Street about shots being fired.



When they arrived, they found 18-year-old Trevon Marquette Johns shot and lying on the ground outside a home.



Johns was taken to Central Carolina Hospital's Emergency Room where he later died from the injury.



The case remains under investigation. No further details have been released at this time.
