BENSON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Fifteen people were injured in a single-vehicle crash involving a large passenger van on I-40 West in Johnston County Saturday morning.
Officials say the van's tire blew causing the driver to lose control and hit the median guardrail. The van then overturned in the westbound travel lanes at mile marker 329 near Benson.
Bishop Allen Curtis from Holy Ground Praise Temple said the church van was on its way to Wrightsville Beach from Raleigh.
Troopers said nine adults and six children were injured. Thirteen of the passengers had to be taken to the hospital. Troopers said the injuries didn't appear to be serious.
"Even my wife, she was hurt and. She was tying to help others get out of the van," said Curtis. :And that was our primarily thing. We were trying to do in our mind, we gotta get everybody out, Amen. Because we had no clue was else could go wrong."
The interstate was closed for one and a half hours. All of the passengers have been released from the hospital.
