Man who drowned in Spring Lake pond identified

SPRING LAKE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Spring Lake police have released the name of a man who drowned in a pond off Britania Road on June 20.

Witnesses said 24-year-old Raheem Kalif Johnson couldn't swim and was standing on a ledge with a steep drop off before they saw him struggling in the water.

Witnesses tried to help, but were unable to get him closer to shore before he went under and didn't resurface.

Divers found his body about three hours later.
