SEATTLE, Washington -- Nordstrom is sticking to its guns, even as President Trump publicly lashes out against the company on Twitter.
Days after the retailer announced that it would not buy Ivanka Trump's branded line of clothing and accessories for the upcoming season, POTUS took to Twitter Wednesday morning to blast the department store's relationship with the first daughter.
In a statement, Seattle-based Nordstrom cited declining sales -- not politics -- as the reason behind their decision.
"Sales of the brand have steadily declined to the point where it didn't make good business sense for us to continue with the line for now. We've had a great relationship with the Ivanka Trump team. We've had open conversations with them over the past year to share what we've seen and Ivanka was personally informed of our decision in early January," a company spokesperson said.
As of Wednesday afternoon, four styles from Ivanka Trump's shoe line remain for sale on the Nordstrom website, although they are all heavily discounted. The company said on social media that it will continue to sell through its current inventory.
After Trump's tweet, Nordstrom shares fell, but they later recovered to be up about 3 percent.
Nordstrom is not the first company to draw President Trump's ire on social media. Boeing and Carrier have been the targets of Trump's tweets in the past, but that this one was about a business run by his daughter could raise conflict-of-interest concerns.
The retailer follows Macy's, TJ Maxx, Neiman Marcus and other retailers who have backed away from Trump-branded fashion lines over the past year.
Ivanka Trump has not publicly commented on Nordstrom's decision.
