Aberdeen man facing numerous charges after shooting, foot chase

ABERDEEN, N.C. (WTVD) -- Aberdeen police have arrested a man wanted in a shooting last week.

The shooting happened Aug. 5 in the 700 block of Magnolia Drive.

Officers found a man with two gunshot wounds to the chest/shoulder area. They immediately began treating him, and the victim was later airlifted to a hospital.

The suspect had fled the scene.

Investigators eventually identified Raheem Mahad Ewing, 43, of Aberdeen as the suspect. On Aug. 6, investigators obtained warrants for felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and felony firearm by felon.

Investigators found Ewing on Monday at a home near Hazelwood Drive and Pine Bluff Lake Road. He tried to run, but after a chase, he was taken into custody by the Moore County Special Response Team and Aberdeen Special Response Team.

He was additionally charged with felony possession of cocaine, felony possess marijuana, and misdemeanor resist, delay, and obstruct.

Ewing was taken before a Moore County Magistrate, where he received no bond.

The Moore County Sheriff's Office, Richmond County Sheriff's Office, Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, Southern Pines Police Department, SBI and ATF all assisted.
