LAKE LURE, N.C. -- Strong winds tested containment lines on the Party Rock Fire Saturday and through the night into Sunday morning, but fire managers report there was no fire growth outside those lines.
"If we can hold it one more day, we should be in great shape," Incident Commander Dan Brandon told firefighters during Sunday's morning briefing.
Continued windy conditions and low humidity will keep fire fighters on their toes again Sunday.
No new evacuation warnings have been issued but residents near the fire are asked to remain vigilant. Residents and business owners are encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts through their county or local government websites.
The size of the fire remains at 7171 acres, with containment holding at 36 percent. More than 900 structural and wildland firefighters are working day and night to protect homes and businesses.
Residents and business owners have been allowed back into the Chimney Rock Village and Bat Cave communities but passes are required.
