Pink Out Rally held in Raleigh to support Planned Parenthood
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Dozens of Planned Parenthood supporters rallied at the state legislature Tuesday as part of the nationwide Pink Out Rally event.
The organization is standing strong against what they are are attacks on Planned Parenthood.
Emily Callen, who is the Senior Director of Field Operations at Planned Parenthood, says the fight is critical right now in North Carolina.
"We always see some legislative shenanigans as the session comes to a close and this year is no different," said Callen.
Monday, a bill went through that would prevent the sale or donation of fetal tissue. It also defunds Planned Parenthood's sex education program in high schools. The bill has been sent to Governor Pat McCrory.
The organization says they have received money for this program for more than a decade. Callen says the sex-ed program in particular is a valuable resource for young adults.
"Folks need medically accurate and age appropriate information in order to make good choices and stay healthy," said Callen.
Planned Parenthood says they have received pledges from supporters to help fund that program if McCrory signs the bill into law.
