Pilot killed in small plane crash near Halifax airport
The FAA said the pilot reported engine problems around 10 a.m. and was diverting to Halifax when the aircraft went down.

HALIFAX, N.C. (WTVD) -- A single-engine plane crashed near the Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport Friday, killing the pilot.

Pictures from Chopper 11 HD showed the Cessna 182Q upside down in a field about five miles southwest of the airport.

The FAA said the pilot reported engine problems around 10 a.m. and was first diverting to the Hanover County Airport in Virginia, before diverting to Halifax when the aircraft went down.

The Cessna departed the Sabot Airport in Virginia.

The FAA is sending investigators to learn what happened.

Coworkers identified the pilot as Virginia attorney Albert Orgain IV.
