Hotline calls pour in over new NC immigration law
The North Carolina Justice Center says it has gotten lots of calls.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Justice Center says it has set up a hotline to help people with questions or concerns after Governor Pat McCrory signed HB 318 last week.

So far, there have been lots of inquiries.

"It will allow us to collect information about how this law is affecting people in immigrant families, but also help us understand what local governments are doing to implement the law," explained Dani Moore, who is director of the Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project of NC.

The number is (919) 526-0676.

The new law prevents local municipalities from adopting "sanctuary city" policies and protecting undocumented workers.

The Governor's signing of the bill has drawn protests from immigration rights groups.

McCrory has told ABC11 he definitely doesn't see HB318 as a discriminatory bill, as many critics do, and basically said the bill will make people safer.
