1 dead after early morning house fire in Pinehurst
PINEHURST, N.C. (WTVD) -- One person died following a house fire early Sunday in the Jackson Hamlet community, according to officials.
The Pinehurst Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire just before 5 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames coming from the home.
A witness told firefighters that someone might still be inside the residence. Crews faced extreme heat and heavy fire conditions while working to bring the blaze under control.
One person was later found dead inside the home.
Officials said Moore County Public Safety, with assistance from the Pinehurst Fire Department, is investigating the cause of the fire. The victim's identity has not been released.
