Suspect in custody after 3 shootings, 2 attempted carjackings in Fayetteville
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A suspect is in custody after three shootings and two attempted carjackings that happened Sunday morning in Fayetteville.
Cumberland County Sheriff's Office responded to the 700 block of Messenger Street in Fayetteville around 7 a.m. after a 911 call reporting a shooting.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a local medical facility for treatment and is currently in stable condition.
The male suspect fled the area before deputies arrived. The shooting occurred outside of the Fayetteville Police Department's jurisdiction.
Several minutes later, Fayetteville Police were called to the Hardee's parking lot in the 6300 block of Ramsey Street for an attempted carjacking and shooting with a victim.
Upon arrival, they found another woman who had been shot.
A short time later, officers were called to the Food Lion parking lot in the 900 block of McArthur Road for an attempted carjacking and shooting with a victim.
When officers arrived at the Food Lion, they found an additional woman who had been shot.
The suspect fled both Fayetteville scenes before officers arrived.
With help from the Fayetteville Police Department's Crime Information Center and witnesses, officers quickly found the suspect.
The suspect is currently in custody.
Both victims were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and are reported to be in stable condition.
The suspect is being handled by the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
Anyone in the 900 block of McArthur Road and the 6300 block of Ramsey Street should expect a heavy law enforcement presence. Officers and detectives are currently at both scenes, and some areas are shutdown while they conduct the investigation.
