17-year-old arrested for shooting in Southern Pines, charged as adult

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (WTVD) -- A 17-year-old was arrested following a shooting in Southern Pines that damaged a home and car.

On January 11, 2026, police responded to reports of gunfire on Plantation Drive in the Mid-South community. They discovered a residence and vehicle struck by bullets, with spent shell casings collected as evidence.

The investigation led to a 17-year-old suspect, whose identity is withheld due to their age. They face charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and felony discharge of a firearm into an occupied dwelling.

Authorities confirmed the suspect will be charged as an adult. They were taken into custody without incident and are being held at the Juvenile Detention Facility without bond.

There is no ongoing threat to the Mid-South community.
