
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Six people are dead and one person was injured after a crash on I-485 in Charlotte on Saturday.
According to ABC11 affiliate WSOC, the crash happened on Interstate 485 Outer Loop at Mile Marker 9 at around 11:50 a.m.
A portion of the interstate was closed as emergency crews worked to clear the scene, the North Carolina Department of Transportation said.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a Honda CR-V and a Chrysler Minivan collided and drifted to the right, hitting a tractor-trailer that was parked on the side of the road.
Only one person was inside the Honda, and was killed. Troopers said six people were in the Chrysler. Five of them were pronounced dead at the scene.
A 16-year-old girl who was inside the Chrysler was taken to the hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.
"Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this horrific incident," MEDIC said.
No other details have been released.
