6 injured in crash on NC Highway 55 near Angier

ANGIER, N.C. (WTVD) -- Six people were hospitalized late Thursday night following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of NC Highway 55 and Ennis Road, just east of the Angier city limits.

According to the Angier Black River Fire Department, crews were dispatched just after 11 p.m. to the 5600 block of NC Highway 55. First responders arrived to find a collision involving a passenger car and an SUV.

The passenger car had left the roadway and came to rest against a power pole, sustaining heavy damage to the driver's side door. The SUV was found across the lanes of travel but remained in the roadway.

A total of six people were transported for medical treatment. Two patients were taken to WakeMed Raleigh under trauma alert status. Two additional patients with minor injuries were transported to WakeMed Raleigh, while two others with minor injuries were taken to Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington.

NC Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash. Officials said limited details are available at this time, as troopers had to travel to WakeMed Raleigh and Central Harnett Hospital to conduct interviews with those involved.

NC Highway 55 was closed to all traffic for nearly an hour while emergency crews treated and transported patients and investigators worked the scene. The roadway reopened just before 12:30 a.m.

The investigation remains ongoing.
