66-year-old man killed in Fayetteville shooting; investigation underway

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man is dead and a suspect is in custody following a shooting in Fayetteville Saturday morning.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded around 4:40 a.m. July 25 to a reported assault in the 6000 block of Marquette Street.

Investigators determined that a man, identified as Richard Brigman, 66, of Fayetteville, had suffered a gunshot wound. He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

A person was taken into custody has since been released, according to authorities. No additional information has been released.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit is investigating the case. Officials said the shooting does not appear to be a random incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
