Amtrak train strikes, kills pedestrian in Durham near Duke campus

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- An investigation is underway after a man was hit and killed by an Amtrak passenger train on Wednesday afternoon.

It happened just after 5 p.m. near W. Pettigrew Street and the Campus Drive bridge. That's near Duke University's East Campus.

Durham Police said a man was walking on the tracks when the crash happened. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

All roads in the area remain open.
