Morrisville robotic surgery company to lay off 108 workers

MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Asensus Surgical, a robotic surgery systems company, has announced dozens of layoffs affecting employees in Morrisville.

A total of 108 workers at the plant, at 1001 Airport Blvd., will be laid off during a six-month period beginning Aug. 15.

A company spokesperson said all affected employees have been notified.

The company said the layoffs were tied to "organizational realignment and business conditions necessitating a reduction in force."

The facility is expected to remain open following the mass layoffs.
