HOKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Former Aberdeen police lieutenant arrested on child sex charges Wednesday morning

Former Aberdeen Police Lt. Leigh Ann Brooks was arrested Wednesday morning on child sex charges following an investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

The investigation began Dec. 2, 2025, after the Aberdeen police chief asked the SBI to investigate an allegation of sexual assault reported to the department. After completing its investigation, the SBI presented its findings to the Hoke County District Attorney's Office for review.

Brooks was taken into custody by SBI agents and transported to the Hoke County Detention Center, where she appeared before a magistrate.

Brooks is charged with:

  • Five counts of felony indecent liberties with a child.

  • Four counts of felony statutory rape/sex offense of a child.

  • One count of felony sex offense in a parental role.

Brooks was denied bond and is expected to make her first court appearance soon.

The SBI said the investigation remains ongoing.
