Authorities ID driver killed in Johnston County fiery crash

JOHNSTON COUNTY (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol has identified the driver who was killed in a fiery crash on Castleberry Road in Johnston County Friday morning.

Troopers said he was 23-year-old Michael Clement of Clayton.

Investigators said Clement was headed south on Castleberry Road when he went around a curve and lost control.

The vehicle then went onto the left shoulder where it collided with a tree and became engulfed in flames.

Around 7:20 a.m., an off-duty officer noticed the extinguished vehicle off the roadway and called authorities.

Investigators said speed was a factor in the crash.
