ECU med school under federal investigation for admission practices
ECU is among five other medical schools being investigated by the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Justice.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is under investigation for alleged racial discrimination in admission practices.

ECU is among five other medical schools being investigated by the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Justice.

A news release about the investigations did not give details of allegations involving ECU, but federal authorities say they're looking for evidence of race-conscious admissions practices.

The investigation will determine whether ECU violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

In a statement, ECU said, "The university, including the Brody School of Medicine, complies with the Supreme Court ruling in the Students for Fair Admission v. Harvard, related presidential executive orders and other federal, state and UNC system guidance."

The university also said it will respond to the Department of Education.
