DUNN, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a 9-week-old girl.
Dunn Police Chief Lynn Gay said the investigation was launched after the baby died Monday at Betsy Johnson Hospital.
The investigation unfolded around 4:30 p.m. on Monday when deputies responded to the hospital and learned that medical workers were trying to stabilize the child for transport to a trauma center.
Dunn Police then obtained a search warrant for a home in the 300 block of W. Broad Street.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist.
On Tuesday, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner made a preliminary determination that the infant's death was a homicide caused by blunt force trauma to the head and multiple rib fractures.
The infant's father, Terrion Donal Byrd, of Evans Mills, New York, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with murder.
