RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- An arrest was made in connection with a shooting that occurred outside Southeast Raleigh High School during a football game in August.
The incident, which took place on Aug. 15 at 2600 Rock Quarry Road, caused no injuries but prompted an extensive investigation by Raleigh police.
Cameron Owens, 19, faces charges including discharge of a firearm on educational property, discharge of a firearm within city limits, and injury to personal property.
"I am very proud of how hard my detectives worked to identify the suspect in this case," Chief Boyce said. "This is proof that if you commit a violent act in the City of Raleigh, we will not stop working until offenders are held accountable."
Stacey Dove Brodie, a school alumna who was volunteering at the game, recalled the chaotic scene. "We're watching the game, and Southeast just scored a touchdown. Then all of a sudden, kids are yelling, running from one side and onto the field," she said.
The game was cut short due to the incident, which Brodie described as a setback for the players who had worked hard to prepare.
Brodie also highlighted concerns about inadequate parental supervision at such events, noting that middle school students were often left unsupervised. "We have to be aware of where our kids are, who they're with, and how they got there," she said.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Raleigh Police Department at (919) 996-3335.
