DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- As part of the Carolina Theatre's 100th anniversary celebration, the nonprofit held one of its biggest fundraisers of the year -- Dancing Like the Carolina Stars -- Wednesday
Seven well-known community leaders from local businesses and organizations took the stage in a high-energy dance competition, all to support the historic theater.
"This isn't a typical gala fundraiser, it's a personal investment in the future of our community," said Randy McKay, President and CEO of the Carolina Theatre. "What makes it so powerful is the way it brings Durham together. It's joyful, it's fun, and it reminds us that the arts are among the strongest connectors we have."
This year's lineup featured:
The local personalities were paired with professional dancers for an energetic night in support of the nonprofit's continued growth.
Beyond the performances, the event highlighted the Carolina Theatre's broader role as a cultural and economic engine, generating more than $10 million annually for Durham.
The money raised Wednesday night directly supports that effort, fueling programming, preservation, and community access, while delivering a night of high-energy performances, spirited competition and memorable moments on stage.
Last year's event raised more than $230,000 to support the theater as a hub for Durham's arts and entertainment community.
