DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Business owners in East Durham are preparing for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championship game between the Virginia Union University Panthers and the Johnson C. Smith University Golden Bulls.
The 2025 CIAA Football Championship game is this weekend.
"I've self-dubbed us the ultimate sweet shop. This is where you're going to come to get all of your tailgate goodies," said Stacy Ramos, owner of East Durham Sweet Shoppe.

She is preparing signature popcorn with team colors. Ramos is one of six business owners in East Durham rolling out a one-of-a-kind fan experience, curating special menu items while showing off Bull City hospitality.
"We are offering an opportunity for visitors to taste and try our flagship beers," said Proximity Brewing Company owner Mike Potter. "We're definitely looking forward to a boost in our bottom line this weekend."

It was quiet outside the Durham County Memorial Stadium on Thursday, but the Durham Sports Commission said the signage will be in place this Friday.
Organizers said the CIAA hasn't been in Durham since 2015.
"Last year, our economic impact was just over $14 million. We know this is going to be a great economic impact driver," said Kaila Shea Menendez with the Durham Sports Commission. Just an opportunity to really highlight what the Durham community has to offer for fans that are visiting."
This comes as business owners prepare to showcase their HBCU pride, celebrate the culture and competitiveness.
