Woman killed in single-vehicle crash in Wake County

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Clayton woman died Sunday morning after a single-vehicle crash in Wake County, and two passengers were injured.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to a crash on S. Smithfield Road near Dunn Road around 4 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators said the vehicle was traveling north on S. Smithfield Road at a high rate of speed when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a ditch and a private driveway culvert. After impact, the vehicle overturned, hit a tree and came to rest off the roadway.

The driver, identified as Iasia Robinson of Clayton, died at the scene from her injuries. Two passengers were taken to WakeMed Hospital with injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
