Convicted felon sought after Johnston Co. chase, weapons found in car

KENLY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A convicted felon is on the run in Johnston County after leading deputies on an 85-mph chase before bailing out of his car and disappearing into the woods.

It happened around 12:30 on Saturday afternoon when a deputy spotted a Mini Cooper linked to a wanted suspect on Beulahtown Road near Kenly and tried to pull it over.

The driver refused and sped off onto NC 222 before eventually stopping on Bay Valley Road and taking off on foot.

A K-9 unit searched the area, but the suspect was not found.

Inside the abandoned car, deputies found multiple firearms. Authorities did not release the suspect's name but said that because he is a previously convicted felon, he is prohibited from possessing weapons, and additional warrants have been obtained.

No injuries were reported.
