DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Just days into the new year, the Trump Administration released new dietary guidelines under the label of putting real food back at the center of health.
This comes as many people have set new fitness goals.
At Empower Personalized Fitness in Durham, trainer Iman works with her pregnant client, Laura, to help her reach her fitness goals. Owner Jessica Bottesch has noticed more people setting lifestyle wellness goals.
"In general, many of them are after living stronger, healthier and happier for many years to come," said Jessica Bottesch.
This comes as the Trump Administration released new dietary guidelines for all Americans and a new food pyramid. The suggestions are that people should eat more beans, peas and lentils, while cutting back on red and processed meats and starchy vegetables. They should also limit added sugars, sodium and saturated fat.

"It's actually not significantly different. They are placing more of an emphasis on protein, which they have in the past. Just really driving home the point of reducing ultra-processed food. I definitely agree with that," said registered dietician Leah Williams. "Protein comes from a variety of sources, including meat and animals, but it also comes from plants, beans, eggs, and dairy."
The American Heart Association welcomes federal nutritional guidance and it pledges to continue working with the Trump administration to fight chronic disease.
Meantime, at Empower, the owner said no matter the guidelines, you can never get enough cardio and weight lifting in.
