DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Duke Energy will face public feedback Wednesday night in Durham as customers weigh in on the utility's proposed rate increase.
State regulators are holding a public hearing, giving residents a chance to speak out on the company's plan to raise residential electric rates by 18% over the next two years.
Duke Energy said the increase would help fund upgrades to the power grid and strengthen infrastructure as the region continues to grow.
Some customers, however, say the proposed hike would add to already rising living costs and are urging regulators to reject it.
The hearing comes after a previous meeting was postponed due to security concerns, though officials said there were no active threats under investigation.
Wednesday's hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Durham County Courthouse.
